about
Ellen Wiltshire is a theatre director based in London. Trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (MFA Directing, 2019), she has directed across Australia and the UK, working in devised, physical and new writing contexts.
Recent work includes directing two runs of Ripe by Nicole Plüss at Edinburgh Fringe (2024) and Adelaide Fringe (2026), and leading a two-week R&D residency for the devised ensemble piece Prometheus NOW, supported by Theatre Deli and New Diorama Theatre (2026), with first played at Courtyard Theatre, London (2025).
She is drawn to comedic work with strong visual language, fluid performance spaces and interdisciplinary collaboration.
In 2022 she was awarded a fellowship from the Ian Potter Cultural Trust to pursue research into physical theatre, studying with Giovanni Fusetti at Helikos (Italy), Matteo Destro at Mask Movement Atelier (Italy), and at the Grotowski Institute (Poland).

"The twist and turn of imagery is seamless as it is physically played out onstage. This is majestic poor theatre at its finest.
Playwright’s great achievement, well set by Director."

"Direction is clear and plays with status shifts and changes in reality as the two characters weave through the space, advancing, retreating, circling and changing levels. At no time will your attention wane, such is the pace, dexterity, and creativeness of the whole."

"This is a human piece – it involves opening all the senses into what this cruel world is capable off; we as humans are not invincible (and) I was more enlightened about life after experiencing it."
